Amanda Hollingsworth, DO
Board-Certified ObGyn
“As a child, I spent significant time in the hospital due to a life-threatening illness. The illness left me hearing impaired but did not diminish my desire to help others, and it was instrumental in my decision to pursue a career in medicine. I believe my experiences have made me a caring professional – one who wishes to make a positive difference in the lives of women by providing education and excellent care.”
Dr. Amanda Hollingsworth is a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist who relocated to El Paso in 2010 to open her own practice. Her goal is to provide excellent and compassionate medical care to the women of El Paso.
Dr. Hollingsworth believes in helping others. As a resident, she participated in a medical mission to the Dominican Republic, where she performed pro-bono (free) surgeries for impoverished women, often under primitive conditions.
Married with two children, Dr. Hollingsworth believes that family comes first. She also believes that healthy women make for healthy families, as they are often the pillars of the family as caregivers and caretakers.
Dr. Hollingsworth received her BS in bioengineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and attended medical school at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine, where she earned her doctor of osteopathic medicine (DO) degree in 2001. She then went on to complete a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Chicago in 2005, where she was chief resident her final year.
Before moving to El Paso, Dr. Hollingsworth practiced in Alamogordo, New Mexico, where at times she was the only active obstetrician in the county, with very little backup or support. While in Alamogordo, she was the hospital OB/GYN department chair and a member of the Medical Executive Committee for a two-year term.
A skilled and experienced obstetrician, Dr. Hollingsworth has delivered over 1,000 healthy babies in her career. She cares for both routine and high-risk pregnant patients, and delivers out of hospitals that have level III neonatal intensive care units – the highest level of care a newborn can receive. She takes time to talk to and educate her pregnant patients on maternal health issues. “Healthy mothers make for healthy babies, and it is important to me to educate my patients on how to have a healthy pregnancy,” says Dr. Hollingsworth.
Dr. Hollingsworth is also a skilled gynecologic surgeon, performing state-of-the-art, minimally invasive procedures. She has performed hundreds of surgical procedures, many laparoscopically. Many surgical procedures, such as hysterectomies, are still commonly performed using the “open” procedure with a six-inch or larger incision. Not only does this increase scarring, it often results in a painful and lengthy recovery period. Dr. Hollingsworth usually performs laparoscopic hysterectomies, which normally requires only three or four small incisions, reducing scarring and greatly reducing pain and recovery times.
Dr. Hollingsworth is a member of the American Osteopathic Association and a fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (FACOG). She sees patients from all walks of life and is proud to say that a number of her patients have been other healthcare professionals – both doctors and nurses.
